I just finished How to Date a Nerd by Cassie Mae, this book was incredible! I love the message that it sends. This is going to my 13 year old for sure! She needs to get the message that this book sends BEFORE she gets to high school next year.
Zoe was teased horridly in middle school. She was teased, beyond teased. She was bullied, the kids called her names, they threw food at her and stuck gum in her hair. She would cry herself to sleep at night. Her next door neighbor, Zac was her best friend. He helped her through those tough times, through the anxiety that she felt. When Zoe started high school she decided that she needed to change all of that. She was NOT going to go through that again, she did not want to listen to the whispers and laughter again. She suppressed her inner nerd; she hid her comics and books, she changed her wardrobe, stopped going to Comic Con, stopped talking to Zac. She was popular. She was the girl that all the guys wanted to date, the girl that all the other girls wanted to be. She should be happy right? Then why was she still trying to catch Zac's eye? Why would she hide under her blanket to read X-Men?
When Zoe needs someone to teach her how to drive a stick she turns to Zac. He still cares for her, she feels she can be herself around him. She cannot allow anyone to see them together though. She does not want to go back to being that girl that everyone made fun of. Zac makes her swoon, he brings out her inner nerd, he knows her better than anyone does. He is the guy that she wants to date but she does not want to lose her social standing.
What will Zoe do? This book is one of those books you can completely relate to. It does not matter if you was the Prom queen, the outcast or the nerd while you were in high school (or are in school) because this book has a message that applies to everyone. If you change who you are for someone else, for the wrong reasons than you are losing something valuable in the process.
How to Date a Nerd can be found at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Happy Reading!
